Mission Statement

Rebekah’s Legacy gives victims of domestic violence and those who are missing or murdered, and their families, a voice while providing resources, awareness, and educational information.

Our mission is to shine a light on the realities of domestic violence and missing or murdered persons cases, encourage systemic change, and support those impacted by abuse and disappearance. We are committed to providing resources and educational information to families of missing or murdered persons, survivors of intimate partner violence, and the communities that support them.

Rebekah’s Legacy

Rebekah’s Legacy was born from profound loss, fierce love, and an unwavering commitment to justice. This work exists to honor Rebekah’s life and continue what she could not finish.

Rebekah Barsotti was full of life, strength, and compassion. She was deeply loved and deserved a future filled with safety and possibility.

Though her light was taken too soon, it lives on in every survivor we empower, every life we protect, and every step we take toward a more just world.

We carry her light and we will not stop.

How We Carry This Mission Forward

Through Carrying Her Light, we carry out this mission by:

• Raising awareness of coercive control, emotional abuse, financial abuse, and intimate partner violence—especially in cases where victims are silenced, blamed, or ignored by authorities. 

• Supporting families of missing or murdered persons by offering critical information and resources.

• Encouraging systemic change by informing judges, attorneys, and law enforcement about existing Montana statutes, such as the Slayer Statute and MCA 72-3-501(2), which were overlooked in Rebekah’s case and must be better enforced to protect other victims and prevent injustice.

• Pressing for policy reform that elevates domestic violence-related missing persons cases to the state or federal level, rather than remaining at the county level where bias and inaction can persist .

• Promoting the creation of a Crime Victim Task Force to help families navigate the complex legal landscape when a loved one is missing, vulnerable, or has died under suspicious circumstances.  

Why It Matters

Too many victims are silenced.
Too many cases are dismissed or overlooked.
Too many families are left to navigate grief and uncertainty alone.

We believe every victim deserves to be seen.
Every story deserves to be heard.
And every family deserves support in their pursuit of truth and justice.
